Norton Remove and Reinstall tool is used to uninstall and reinstall or remove your Norton device security product on Windows. If you are on a Mac, read Remove all Norton programs for Mac using the RemoveNortonMacFiles tool.

If you have Norton Family, you need to uninstall it before you run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.

Download the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.
On Windows XP computers, download the Windows XP compatible version of the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.
Save the file to the Windows desktop. On some browsers, the file is automatically saved to its default location.
To open the Downloads window in your browser, press the Ctrl + J key.
Double-click the NRnR icon.
Read the license agreement, and click Agree.
Do one of the following depending on your situation:
To uninstall and reinstall your Norton device security product, click Remove & Reinstall.
To only remove your Norton device security product, click Advanced Options and then click Remove Only.
You may only see the Remove option if you have received the Norton device security product from your service provider. You may need to contact your service provider to reinstall the product.
Click Continue or Remove.
Click Restart Now.
After the computer restarts, your Norton device security product download starts automatically if you have selected the Remove & Reinstall option.
Reinstall Norton Family if you have uninstalled it.

You may also see one of the following errors when you install your Norton product for Mac:
'Did not find the expected base package for this product. Please contact Support.'
'We were unable to download the support packages. Please check your Internet connection and try again.'
This problem can occur if the Norton Installer fails to connect to the Internet. Launch your browser and make sure that you can access any website to check the Internet connectivity on your Mac.
This problem may also occur if access to Downloads folder is blocked for Norton installer on macOS 10.15.x Catalina or later. During Norton installation, you are prompted to allow access to the Downloads folder.
To fix this problem, allow access to the Download folder for Norton installer in Security & Privacy preferences.

Run RemoveNortonMacFiles tool and remove Norton products.
Delete any Norton installer or directory in Downloads directory.
Download Norton installer, launch and quit. (If the above alert to access Downloads folder does not appear).
Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
In the Security & Privacy window, on the Privacy tab, select Files and Folders in the left pane.
If the settings are locked, click the lock icon at the bottom of the window and then type your administrator password to unlock.
In the Security & Privacy window, select the Downloads Folder for Norton installer in the right pane.
Exit the preferences window.
Re-launch the Norton Installer.

On the Apple menu bar, click Go > Utilities.
In the Utilities window, double-click Disk Utility.
In the Disk Utility window, in the left-pane, select the Startup disk Macintosh HD.
Only a Startup disk can be verified and repaired for file permission issues. Do not select the core storage disk, it does not display the number of files and folders at the bottom of the window.
In the Disk Utility window, on the top menu bar, click First Aid and then click Run.
If you are on macOS 10.14.x or earlier, click Repair Disk permissions.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
Depending on the number of files that are checked for permissions, repairing disk permissions process may take some time.
When the permissions repair completes, exit all programs and restart your Mac.
Install Norton
Sign in to your account.
Type in your email address and password for Norton, and click Sign In.
In the My Norton portal, click Download.
In the Get Started page, click Agree & Download.
When the download finishes, double-click the file that you downloaded to launch the Norton installer.
In the Norton installer window, select I want to join Norton Community Watch, and click Install to start the installation.
When you see a prompt for Install Helper tool, type your administrator password and then click Install Helper.
When prompted, in the Norton installation window, click Restart.
After restarting your Mac, in the Norton installation window that appears, click Open Now to open System Preferences.
In the Security & Privacy preferences window, on the General tab, click the lock icon at the bottom, type your administrator password and click Unlock.
Next to System software from application Norton was blocked from loading, click Allow. Exit the System Preferences window.
In the Norton installation window, click Continue.
In the Norton Installation window, click Open to go to the Security & Privacy settings.
To complete the Norton installation on macOS 10.15.x or later, you need to allow Full Disk access to Norton.
In the Security & Privacy preferences window, on the Privacy tab, click the lock icon at the bottom, type your administrator password and click Unlock.
In the left pane, select Full Disk Access, and then check Norton System Extension in the right pane. Exit the System Preferences window.
In the Installation Successful window, click Restart.
You must restart your computer to complete the installation process.
In the Norton installation window, click Next, and then click Complete.
If prompted to activate, type your email address and password to sign in to Norton. From the list of available licenses in your account, select your license and click Next.
Norton installation is now complete.
